Sky Tree

Seeing Science Through Art

Elementary

Description

This book encourages students to look at the natural world around them through a different lens. Text and pictures are used to follow the journey of a single tree throughout an entire year.  The author weaves thoughts and emotions into the text and illustrations.  The reader is prompted to reflect on the changes taking place in the life of the tree and how these changes make the reader feel.

General Assessment

Recommendation of how and where to use it

Teachers may choose to adopt their own tree within the school playground to follow and document changes throughout the school year.  This activity could combine elements of art and science.
