Feeding Minds, Fighting Hunger-primary grades

Hunger and Malnutrition

Elementary

Description

Feeding Minds, Fighting Hunger is a worldwide, educational initiative focusing on hunger, malnutrition, poverty and food security issues. Created in conjunction with the observance of World Food Day on October 16th, the resource provides lessons to help students discuss and understand the problem of hunger in the world, with the hope of preparing them to participate in activities to create a world free of hunger. Students will:

  • draw a picture of a place where food is plentiful
  • write a story or draw a picture of what they would like to do to end world hunger
  • create a list of action projects they can participate in to help solve world hunger
  • create a list of local staple foods
  • discuss the importance of the food chain
  • discuss the importance of having enough good, safe foods to eat
  • listen and discuss the food system steps in Miguel's story

Each lesson contains background information for the teacher and outlines the main objectives, concepts and content areas to be covered. A variety of activities and discussion points are provided.
